Affiliate Marketing – How The Competition Can Help You

Being able to use the competition to help you make money with affiliate marketing can save you time and trouble. It can even help you get to the top of the Google search results. Read on to find out how your competition can help you.
Businesses, individuals and those in affiliate marketing the world over are keen to get to the top of the Google search results page as they know that they will gain almost all of the traffic for a particular keyword. As you can imagine, competing against so many websites can take a lot of resources and time. By analysing your competition you can use what you learn to get ahead. I’m going to show you how.
When selecting the keywords to sell your products, you will need to find keywords that are relevant and that don’t have strong competition. Start out picking out 5 keywords for this. To do this, use Google Suggest. Google Suggest is what is shown to you when you type your words into a Google searchbar. Take a look at some of the keywords that are suggested to you and then run a search on them.
Once you have selected some keywords, then run a search on them to see what results you gain. You are looking to find other affiliate marketing of the same product that you want to promote and sell. Once you see your product showing up, click through to that site. Then go to the top of Firefox and click on ‘View’ and then ‘Source Code’. You will be shown the code for the web page. Make a note of the keywords that the competition has used on their page.
Now, you’re going to do a search on Traffic Travis. This piece of software can be downloaded for free. It’s ideal for finding out how well sites have been optimised with keywords. You are now going to be looking for a keyword where the sites have left gaps in their optimisation. Enter the keywords that you have discovered through using Google Suggest and by looking on the websites of your competition.
Now in Traffic Travis, go to the SEO Analysis page. Then enter your keyword, set your country and click on Analyse. You can then see all the results that will be shown on a Google search, but you will also see more information about the site. You can see how old a domain is, whether it has used particular fields to add the keywords to and how many backlinks it has.
Look at the information provided. You know that if one of those sites is 7-8 years old and has thousands of backlinks and they have a number 10 spot, then they have spent both time and effort on their site. If you have a domain name that is brand new, without any links, then you will not be in a position to compete.
Affiliate marketing can be quite competitive, especially when it comes to getting to the top of Google. However, it is possible for many keywords, it’s just all about finding the right ones where gaps have been left in the keyword ‘armoury’ of the site. By getting onto the first page of results in Google for a keyword, you really can benefit in terms of traffic and sales.
