Affiliate Marketing Supplements
I need to supplement my income – any suggestions?
I care for a stroke patient full-time, so the only time I have to work on a supplemental income is when she is sleeping. I need an on-line method, I have no money to invest, and I am not interested in MLM or selling. Someone suggested I try affiliate marketing – is this a decent, legitimate income? I’m not looking to get rich, only supplement my income by maybe $500 a month. Any suggestions?
You can earn money with affiliate marketing, and it is a perfectly decent and legitimate way to make income. Companies want to sell their products, so they will pay you if someone buys something by clicking on an ad for a product on your website. If done properly, affiliate links can actually help someone find a product or service they are looking for.
It is really pretty simple and doesn’t cost anything to do affiliate marketing. You become what is called a “publisher” so you need to have at least one website or webpage URL to become a “publisher” to apply for most programs. So here’s what you need to do:
1. Create a website, websites or webpages about a particular theme or topic. Something you are interested in or knowledgeable about. It might be household tips, travel, cooking, sports, gardening, crafts, pets, or hobbies. A natural one for you might be something related to being a caregiver for a stroke patient like “A day in the life of a caregiver”, warning signs of strokes, how to stay in good health as a senior citizen, stroke prevention, making a home wheelchair accessible, products that help families care for their elderly relatives, useful gifts to buy elderly people etc.
But anything that interests you that you know about or are willing to do some research to learn about. Eventually you may want to make several pages about several topics that interest you to increase the number of products you can market.
Since you don’t have any money to invest, I would recommend starting with creating pages (called lenses) on Squidoo. They have a pretty easy to use system of modules and you can even earn income directly from Squidoo by including Amazon and eBay modules on your pages. You can personally select products from Amazon and eBay related to the topic of your page and if anyone clicks on your product link and buys something you earn a commission. Notice how the selling modules and affiliate programs must be appropriate to the topic and helpful for it to work well. People get turned off fast from a site that screams BUY, BUY, BUY – they must get some good information from the page to stick around and possibly eventually click out on a link. 2. After you have created a page or two with interesting original content including photos, apply to some affiliate programs and look for companies that specialize in products that are related to the topics of your pages.

There are numerous other free affiliate marketing programs, but with many you must earn $50 in commissions before you are paid so it is better to start off using one company with numerous advertisers to be able to reach the payment threshold faster. Then as you create more pages and learn how to generate traffic to them, you can expand to additional programs

Zazzle – if you like to take photos, you can create and design your own online store of products by downloading photos from your computer and then post either a few products related to your topic or a link to your entire store on your webpages http://www.zazzle.com/vickisims?rf=238110270365818601
Make more pages about different topics as you find the time and keep your old ones fresh by updating them. It helps if you can create your own niche with several pages about similar or related topics.
In the beginning you may wait several months before you earn the minimum amount to get paid, but as you get the hang of it and learn how to build traffic to your pages, your income can steadily grow.
