What is the best way to approach the job market in job seeking?
I live out west and people seem to get either indifferent and/or annoyed when you come in thier office and drop of a resume to see if there are any jobs. But many jobs wish that you apply and copy your resume on line. Prior to being unemployed I worked for 12 years and everything was done by phone or in person. One job I had for 10 years I got through the Dept of Labor and my job coach made one phone call and I got a job interview. But nowadays the dept of labor does not seem to push very hard to get people jobs. My question is what is the best way to look for jobs in a very impersonal world of internet?
What are your suggestions on being a diligent job seeker as there are times I do get discouraged. I am doing all I can.
Pray.
Practice putting who you are and your experience into a 30 second speech you can use in checkout lines….
Get business cards with your address and contact information ….phone number or e-mail (OfficeMax does cheap ones if you don’t want to make them yourself.)
Contact your local unemployment office and see what kinds of seminars or workshops they offer….they may have some in resume writing so you can find out what is currently being looked for.
Have several resumes tailored to different types of jobs you’re looking for. Maybe one by experience and one by skills.
