Affiliate Marketing For Beginners – Use The Free Stuff First
Affiliate marketing for beginners or experts is always a fun challenge. But it is especially easy to become overwhelmed when you first enter the world of affiliate marketing. Every new program or system claims to have the “secret” that will make you an overnight success. The truth of the matter is this: Most people have to work long and hard to make a living in this business, but that’s true with most any business.
But here’s the good news – once you lay your foundations and start receiving a steady income it becomes easier. The same campaigns will continue to generate income for a long time. Some will actually continue to generate revenue indefinitely.
The key to getting a good start when you enter into this business is to keep your focus, put on blinders, if you will. Choose one or two programs that will give you a good general education on the inner workings of the business. I personally love PotPieGirl, so I always recommend One Week Marketing. I still use her materials as a reference to this day.
Next, don’t get bogged down with monthly subscriptions for any services. That includes article distribution services and even article writing wizards. Until you have a good grasp of the industry you don’t want to spend your money in that way because you are only wasting it.
Last, don’t use affiliate marketing techniques that cost money such as pay per click and paid advertising. Wait until you have some money coming in first.
So here’s my list of things you should do:
1. Always use the free stuff first.
You can pay for more advanced tools once you know what you are doing.
2. Start with Article Marketing
This is the easiest way to start affiliate marketing, and it’s absolutely free! I would suggest you start with ArticlesBase or eZine Articles because Google really likes them and tends to rank them high in searches.
3. Sign Up for Guru Mailing Lists
They will provide you with the most valuable free information you will ever get, plus you will stay informed of all the latest news in internet marketing.
4. Get a Free Website
Lots of services will give you a free website if you let them put some advertising on it. I personally think it is totally worth the trade off to have some free internet real estate.
One more piece of advice: Get a plan for your marketing and STICK WITH IT! It is so tempting to jump from one tactic to another when you are new to affiliate marketing.
Consistency is the key. If you continuously change your methods, then you never give anything enough time to work. I would give anything at least three months before I tried something different. (This is three months of CONSISTENTLY working on it everyday, or at least six days a week.)
