Search Engine Optimization for Internet Marketers
The term search engine optimization seems to come up quite a bit in the world of internet marketing. This should be no surprise as it is definitely important for internet marketers to engage in regular
search engine optimization
for a number of reasons. Put simply, internet marketers are in the business to make money. They cannot make money unless consumers buy their product. Consumers cannot buy the product unless they see the page displaying the product. And consumers cannot see the website displaying the product unless the website shows up on the search results of major search engines. This is the point where search engine optimization comes in – it is the point where internet marketers determine how to get their website viewed by online consumers.
There are various methods which internet marketers employ in
search engine optimization
. Very generally speaking, the two most common ways of search engine optimization are by using pay per click campaigns and organically. Pay per click campaigns are those advertising campaigns which are hosted by major search engines where internet marketers pay to have their site displayed on various sites relating to their product site. When consumers click on the link to their site while visiting a related site, the internet marketer is charged for that click. Organic search engine optimization, on the other hand, is where internet marketers use keywords and phrases to have their site reach the top of search engine searches under such specified keywords and phrases.
The question oftentimes arises of whether an internet marketer would be better suited by focusing his or her efforts on organic
search engine optimization
or pay per click campaigns. While the perfect answer to this is that internet marketers should focus on both, this is sometimes not practical. While any important decision requires a thorough examination of the specific circumstances, organic search engine optimization is generally a better alternative between the two.
First of all, many studies show that consumers are more likely to visit sites when they are brought up organically. In other words, it seems to be the case that consumers prefer to visit sites near the top of a search listing as opposed to clicking on a link outside of what the search engine found. The reason for this is partially due to the fact that some consumers look at pay per click advertisements as nothing more than a marketing ploy and as such view them as untrustworthy sources of information. In short, consumers do not like top-down advertising campaigns and that is what many pay per click campaigns appear like. Rather, consumers prefer to find the subject matter they are looking for by simply performing a search and reading what the search engine brings up.
In addition to these reasons, pay per click campaigns are becoming increasingly more expensive. So while an internet marketer might not save any time with the organic method, he or she is likely to save money. And as the old adage says, “a dollar saved is a dollar earned.”
