Pros and Cons of Outsourcing – Every Internet Marketer Should Read This

If you’ve been an internet marketer for a while, I’m sure you’ve thought about letting other people do certain jobs. In this article I will go over some of the main pros and cons of outsourcing. But first, let’s take a quick look at what web outsourcing is.

You simply pay someone else to perform a certain task for you. As everything is done over the internet, you could be working with someone on the other side of the world. Most freelancers speak English (though not all as well), so handing over tasks shouldn’t cause too many problems.

Which leads us to the first pro:

Save Money

Yep, you can actually save money by paying someone else to do a certain task. Especially, if you decide to hire a freelancer in say the Philippines or India. Labor is very cheap there compared to most western countries. Don’t feel like you’re taking advantage of them though. Because living costs are much cheaper, you can save yourself quite a bit of money, while still offering the freelancer a more than average wage.

Save Time

As you won’t be stuck doing mundane, boring jobs anymore, you have more time to focus on things you enjoy. This could be related to your work, or your free time. You would have more time to spend with your loved ones, to practice sports or hobbies, to go on holidays,…whatever you like really.

Boost Your Business

Because you will be freeing up more time, you’ll have more time to invest in your business. More particularly in helping your business grow. While others are taking care of the every day tasks, you could be looking at other avenues to diversify or even simplify your business.

It’s not all sunshine and roses though. Especially when you’re new to hiring people online, you’ll need to be aware of both the pros and cons of outsourcing.

Where to Find Workers

Your number one problem getting started will be to find good freelancers. There are plenty of specialized job boards where you can find people. Or you could look into classified ads like Craigslist. Wherever you find someone, unless they were recommended to you by someone you trust, you’ll only find out how well they do their work after you hired them. Of course once you find someone you like working with, you won’t have this problem anymore.

Rush Jobs

If you need articles or a new webdesign as soon as possible, you may have trouble finding someone who can finish the job both in a satisfying way and on time. Most freelancers work for several people at the same time. So the one you’re used to working with may not be free when you need his or her services.

Lack of Communication

As all communication is done through mail or telephone, certain aspects of the job might get lost in translation. You should also keep in mind that not all freelancers work in the same way. Some may notify you once they finish part of the job. Others will never send you any mails until the job is completely finished. If you like to be updated frequently on the progress, make sure the freelancer you’re working with knows this in advance.

Loss of Control

If you’re a control freak like me, handing over part of your business to someone else is pretty scary. Of course once you find a reliable freelancer, this issue will solve itself. However, it’s important to realize that part of your work will be out of your control for a big part. For example when you decide to outsource customer service, this could be a big issue.
