Does anyone know about working in massage?
I was thinking of taking an online course for certification in massage therapy (found U.S. Career Institute which is accredited and positive rating from the BBB). I live in NJ and need a second job in the evenings to make extra money. Is there a demand for this? I don’t want to put up the investment if it’s not worth it. And yes, I want to be legit.
Look up what’s required for licensing or certification in your state. Considering my state requires a 600 hour course, from a legitimite college or career training center, and it took me 7 months of hands-on classes, I can’t quite believe you could just take a few online classes and thats it. But every state is different. The bigger the town you live in or near, the more the demand for massage. It’s still considered a luxury, but some hospitals and a lot of chiropractors are hiring therapists trained in medical massage, sports massage and other more therapuetic modalities. Figure out what you want to specialize in and take those classes. Hint, if therapists in your area aren’t paid much, you may as well focus on swedish massage and spa related courses, so that you’re not killing yourself doing deep tissue for no repayment.
