Anybody who knows a lot about becoming a dentist?
I need some additional info on what it takes to become a dentist. It would be really nice if you guys could help.
Do dentists need special training or apprenticeships? If yes, what kind?
How many job or training hours are required to advance in dentistry?
How often do dentists have to update their license?
If a dentist wanted to make more money what could they do?
What do dentists need to do in order to do their job safely and efficiently?
What are a dentist’s primary duties?
Also, I have a speech to do about the dentistry career and I have to dress accordingly. What’s an easy way I could dress so I would look like a dentist?

Well first off to become a dentist you have to go to dental school. In order to get into dental school you have to pass the DAT, which is the dental entrance test. Normally an individual going into dental school get a bachelor’s degree in Biology, but any BA will do as long as you take all the pre req.’s for dental school and pass the DAT. Along with all of this you need to have amazing grades in all of these classes. Dentist go through 4 years of dental school and can go on to specialize if they want such as if they want to go into oral surgery, orthodontics, and many more. You can do an apprenticeship, but it is not necessary, you can start out in your own practice right out of dental school, but then you have to worry about getting patients and filling out a schedules. Doing an apprenticeship under another dentist give you the experience of another dentist along with practice, without the stress of owning your business right out of dental school. There are many advantages to doing an apprenticeship. Dentist don’t update their license what they do is take a certain amount of credit hours each year to keep up on new techniques and procedures. A lot of dentist go to the UDA which is once a year and held all around the country/world. Often times they take their employee’s as well. There are many things a dentist can do to make more money, it’s just like owning your own business, advertising- the main thing is word of mouth. You just have to be very people friendly. Dentist mainly take care of patients who have teeth problems. If they have toothaches, if they want a “new” smile, placing crowns, bridges, root canals, cavity fillings, etc. They put people at ease, since a lot of people are terrified of dentist. Well I hope I answered all of your questions. Oh by the way most dentist were scrubs (ie what you see Dr.’s at the hospital wear). Good luck!!!
