What do you do about a debt you don’t really owe?
About a year and a half ago, a relative of mine got a business license for doing lawn service. Well, an online advertising agency somehow got his number and called him and asked him if he would be interested in advertising with them; he said NO because he couldn’t afford it. Well, they began advertising his name and number anyway, and now they claim he owes them $2000.00. How does he get them to stop harrassing him?
Send them a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt (do NOT use regular mail) stating:
Cease all communications with me about this alleged debt. I did not enter into any written contract with your firm. Receipt of this letter is officially being time stamped via Certified Mail.
If they keep calling, read the following statement to them:
Be advised that this call is being recorded. If you do not consent to being recorded, you need to terminate this call. Continuation of this phone call after officially being informed that it is being recorded implies consent to be recorded.
