HELP! Has anyone gotten a judgement against their small business or corporation?
There must be someone out there that can help me with this that has actually gone through it themselves. My company has a dispute/suit going with the evil phone company for advertising. Of course, I’m preparing for my case, reseearching, and have already had to pay two attorneys for various advice. I do have a corporation. However, with all the info on the Internet I’m stressed out to no end thinking what might happen if I lose or lose part of the case and somehow they get a judgement against me. This phone company sues like 10 people a day and I have been reading through case after case online but it doesn’t provide the real details. If you have gone through this sort of thing and got a judgement – how did you deal with it? Did they wipe out your business bank accounts or did you find a way to protect yourself or your company? Thanks so much for any real advice and not just secondhand nonsense from the Internet. Oh, and I am in the USA.
The advice you get here, if any, won’t be very helpful unless you explain the nature of the dispute and how it arose. This isn’t a good section for legal discussion, so your better bet is in Law & Ethics where the legal eagles congregate. Find it under Home > Politics & Government.
As a rule, though, unless your business is worth very, very little, it’s unlikely a ruling about against you would bankrupt the company.
