I want to open a gift type business. shop & online. Is it a good time to do it in the UK?
I have been working on it for a year now, and am close to opening, but I am worried about interest rates/recession, which could really hit a non-essential item business like this? What do you think?
People are still spending on things that they want and what is crucial for any business, more than ever, is ensuring that your product is something that they want. This means that marketing is key to your success. We recently visited the Affordable Art Fair at Battersea, where work is sold for between £300 and £3000. One artist we know sold all 4 of his pieces that were on offer at £2995, there were red dots next to works on lots of stalls and that was after just two days.
Speak to your local Business Link for help and information on starting your business to make sure you’ve covered everything you should have before you launch yourself. They run free one-day seminars on starting in business and have lots of useful information on business plans and marketing.
