Online Business History
My friend has had his laptop stolen, although his internet history was wiped he is worried that somehow…?
…the dirty thief will be able to access personal information, i.e internet banking or see things he has viewed online, is this possible? All of the history was wiped but he has been doing a lot of bank/business related work online which is private?
“Your friend” should not worry about online banking, which is heavily encrypted and not retrievable from an internet history. The same applies to e-mail programmed and any online payments he may have made. Unsecured internet browsing can be retrieved unless the history was wiped or it was done using your browser’s Private Browsing facility. Unsecured documents will be easily retrieved.
It is remotely possible that, if they had to, the FBI, say, could retrieve something from your laptop if they had it in their hands, but they’re the only ones with the resources and expertise to do so, and they’d only do so if they had a reason to do so as well.
