Online Business Time Clock
What would need to be on a website about New Zealand to make you visit it often?
I live in New Zealand, and plan to make a website about it. It’s mostly intended to advertise for my little bed and breakfast business, but I would also like to show picture galleries, and have an online shop on it. Is there anything you would want to see on a website like that? Maybe a clock displaying local time, and stuff like that? What else would be good, and moreover, what would get you hooked on it?
We’re going on holiday to New Zealand in a couple of weeks and I’m finding some of the websites I look at a bit frustrating for a few reasons, so I’ve got plenty to say on the matter……….’oh no’ I hear you groan!!:
- lack of photos or bad photography. I’ve never been before and I’ve heard it’s a beautiful country but half the time the campsites or hotels I see don’t show the area to its best advantage (a couple of shots of a cramped looking bedroom, no pic of the outside of the site or property, no pics of the local area or they’ll show 5 pics and two will be a couple of sheep in a field – I think most of us know what a couple of sheep look like, we want to see photos of the landscape and property LOL ).
- bad websites. I hate sites with music, ‘flash’ trying to be too trendy, and photos that you can’t either do a slideshow of or be able to tab through (or they’re too small to be able to see properly). You want info, info, info, photos, maps, weather info, facts for the newbie visitor, perhaps travelling times from the major airport/city, walking distance to the local pub and restaurant and more photos! Some sites have lots of photos but each one opens in a new window and you have to close it before you can click on a new one – I know it sounds trivial but if you’re searching through 40+ sites and one isn’t easy to navigate then often you’ll skip it and move on to the next one.
- regarding info – you say you have a B&B, so I think it’s a good idea to state clearly how many people each room will sleep (if it’s a family room, does family mean 3, 5 or 9?). A photo or two of the room set up normally and for the maximum amount of people is also useful.
- a clock with local time on as you mentioned is a good idea, I like that. Weather info would be good too if you can do it.
- I mentioned walking distance to the local pub earlier and I think this is quite important. We like to think that people aren’t going to drink and drive so if they know that they can stay at your place and be able to walk to a few decent pubs/restaurants, then that’s a good thing and can be an attractive prospect for some when booking a place to stay – likewise, if you’re in the middle of nowhere then you need to mention that and give driving distances to local amenities.
Phew, I think that’s all I can think of for now. Sorry for the essay and for being an internet bore, but over the years I’ve spent a lot of time on the internet for tourism reasons and there are so many bad websites out there. I do think people are doing themselves a big favour if they have a good site which is easy for a person to use.
