What Kind Of Permission Do I Have To Get To Sell Images Of President Barack Obama?
I’ve got a picture of Barack Obama that I would like to market.
Is the current President protected by Copyright or Trademark or is he in the public domain?
I take note of the fact that Pres. Obama was elected on Nov 5th and then inaugurated on Jan 21.
A lot of people seemingly had very little time to get permission to put Obamas face on everything from coffee mugs to comic books. Was permission granted extra fast because of the deadline, or were people free to just go ahead and put their products out there no matter what?
I’m sure a Pres. Obama Brandy Decanter would not have gone over so well, for example, so obviously, some peoples requests were turned down.
I don’t want to run afoul of federal law so, what would be the best way to approach this?
