The Internet Marketing Indonesia
is there anybody outside indonesia interested in indonesian arts and crafts for example, Bali?
is it a good idea if to shop for those arts and crafts without going to Indonesia but by buying on the internet?

Hi. I have been to Indonesia and I also collect Indonesian masks and statues. I can tell you, I did not buy ANY masks or statues in Indonesia because the second they saw I was a tourist, the prices just went nutzoid. Any time I tried to buy stuff from markets, they basically tried to charge me what I would pay retail in Australia. I was not impressed since I was expecting to pay a lot LESS at the source.
On a happier note, I have collected LOTS of masks, sculptures and wayang on ebay at a fraction of the price they were asking in Indonesia. The benefit of this is also that the ones I buy 2nd hand are older and more original looking than the nasty looking tourist crap in Indo. I would always prefer older, more carefully made items than new trashy ones.
Here is my best buy: I bought a stunning 9 foot tall wooden carved garuda statue for $160!!!! Would have cost me thousands to buy / ship it from Indo.
