Uf Online Business Program

I want to be the CEO of Lockheed Martin one day. What should I major in?

Im currently a junior in HS,I have a couple of scholarships and I have the grades to back it up.However,I dont know what to major in.I just came off a college tour(organized by one of my scholarship programs) in which we spent 4 days touring the universities of FSU,UF,UCF,Full Sail, and FAMU among others. The tour guides at FSU,UCF,and UF talked about how great their business/engineering programs are.In fact,UCF started out as a mainly engineering-based university and has since grown to epic proportions.

All this got me thinking about what I should major in:Engineering or Business.Personally,Im not very interested in being directly involved in the building process of fighter jets.Im much more interested in the business and financial side of the company.I was reading online that certain companies demand different types of majors from their CEOs.Im a bit undecided if I should go with Industrial Engineering or Business Management. What should I do?

Your question is very difficult to answer. If you wanted to be CEO of a small company, I would suggest the MBA route with a strong emphasis on sales and accounting. However, for a industry giant like L/M, you will probably need some engineering skills as well. An IE would fit well, but so would a M/E or E/E. I would also tune up on your language skills. Find out the direction Lockheed is going (East or West), and learn Chinese, Russian, French or German. Since it will take you at least another 25 years to be near your goal, you have lots of time to become well diversified. As CEO, you not only are the face of the company to your customers, you are the face of the company to your employees.

My biggest piece of advice to you is to continue to reach high, but keep in mind that social skills are not learned in class. Take your time, set your goal, and always be prepared and open minded to move in other directions as opportunity opens its doors to you. Best of luck!
